Job Description

The Library Archivist will be responsible for the acquisition, organization, preservation, and accessibility of archival materials. This role involves working closely with other library staff, researchers, and the public to ensure that our collections are well-maintained and accessible.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collection Management: Acquire, appraise, arrange, describe, and preserve archival materials.
• Cataloging: Create and maintain detailed records of archival collections using appropriate cataloging standards.
• Preservation: Implement preservation techniques to ensure the longevity of materials, including digital preservation.
• Research Assistance: Assist researchers and the public in accessing and using archival materials.
• Outreach: Develop and conduct educational programs, exhibitions, and other outreach activities to promote the use of archival collections.
• Policy Development: Assist in the development and implementation of archival policies and procedures.
• Collaboration: Work with other library staff to integrate archival materials into the broader library collection and services.

Qualifications:

• Education: Master’s degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in archival work or a related field.
• Skills:
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in archival software and digital preservation tools.
• Knowledge of archival standards and best practices.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with rare books and special collections.
• Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA).
