van der Veen, Hartshorn, Levin & Lindheim is a fast-paced and growing law firm seeking a highly motivated Criminal Defense Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our Criminal Defense Department. We are an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer that values diversity in our workplace.

The primary responsibility of this position will be to support the attorneys’ with their caseload. The ideal candidate will be familiar in multi-tasking and organization skills.

An ideal candidate must be able to work independently as well as work well with others as part of a team.

Fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.

You will be responsible for:

• Organizing the electronic and paper files;
• Handling, organizing and reviewing discovery;
• Responding to all client calls in a timely manner;
• Properly documenting all communications in our case management system;
• Conduct legal research on relevant statutes, case law, and procedures;
• Draft motions, subpoenas, affidavits, and correspondence under attorney supervision; and
• Prepare and file court documents.

The Ideal Candidate should possess:

• Experience as a Legal Assistant/Paralegal in an office setting, preferably criminal defense firm;
• Highly proficient in Microsoft, including but not limited to Word, Excel and Outlook;
• Strong time management and multitasking skills;
• Attention to detail; and
• Strong organizational skills.
