Overview The Relief for Children (RFC) is seeking a US-based candidate, preferably in the broad Washington, DC area, interested in non-profit service. The Director of Finance will provide financial leadership, oversight, and accountability for the organization. This position will be responsible for safeguarding the financial health of RFC, ensuring strong stewardship of resources, compliance with financial standards, and effective budgeting and reporting. The Director of Finance will work closely with senior leadership and program teams to advance RFC’s mission through sound financial management and strategy. Responsibilities Develop and manage RFC’s annual budget in collaboration with leadership and program staff. Monitor, evaluate, and report on financial performance, ensuring transparency and accountability to stakeholders. Oversee all financial aspects of the organization, including investments, budgeting, financial reporting, and cash management. Report, develop, and coordinate annual business operations in alignment with updated budgets, financial reporting, and cash flow. Ensure that RFC remains in full compliance with the financial requirements of its 501(c)(3) status, including accurate record-keeping and reporting. Monitor, evaluate, and present financial performance to leadership and stakeholders. Support audits, donor compliance requirements, and grant reporting. Establish internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard RFC’s assets. Partner with development and sponsorship teams to track program funds, donations, and program-related finances. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (CPA or equivalent preferred). 3+ years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in the non-profit sector. Strong knowledge of GAAP, non-profit accounting standards, and financial compliance. Proven ability to develop and manage budgets, analyze financial data, and present findings to leadership. Experience managing audits, grants, and donor reporting. Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
